Meet the Assistant Principal

Steve Coyle came to the LJMS family in 2019 as a Mathematics instructor and joined the administrative team as the Assistant Principal in July of 2020. Prior to that, he spent fifteen years serving the students in the city of Philadelphia, PA as a classroom teacher, department chair, and middle school coordinator and two years as the Assistant Director of Quality & Accountability in the School District of Philadelphia’s Charter School oversight office.

In 2012, Steve’s teaching methods were heavily featured in Alice Ginsberg’s book “Embracing Risk in Urban Education,” highlighting the Social Justice curriculum he designed for his classes over his 7 years at a National Blue Ribbon K-8 School (for closing achievement gap) in Philadelphia that serves immigrant, refugee, and English Learner populations.

Steve earned his M.Ed. from Temple University's Graduate School of Education in 2011, followed by his Principal Certification from the university’s Educational Leadership Program in 2015.  Steve was born and raised in Worcester, Massachusetts, joined the U.S. Army Medical Corps at age 17, and earned his B.A. in History from Worcester State University in 2001. Steve is also an accomplished athlete, having competed in and coached in interscholastic, intercollegiate, and adult competitive sports.

Steve now makes his home in Rohnert Park and is excited to bring his experience in curriculum and instruction design to the Lawrence E. Jones Middle School community.

With Jaguar Pride,
